Running is the most natural form of exercise and is something you have done
all your life (or at least for a while as a kid). Running is very convenient and can be done anywhere. There is a lot to be said for outdoor running as you have the environment to keep you amused e.g dogging cars and dog sh*t, but many people don’t like running in public and would prefer to do it on a treadmill, if your already in the gym why not, but weather in or outdoors running is a great cardio exercise to do to reduce manboobs.

Running builds stamina, increases lung capacity, strengthens heart and burns calories but if you haven’t done any running for a long while you need to start slowly in fact don’t be ashamed to start out walking and gauge your effort by time not distance.
A good goal to have is running for 20 to 30 mins 3 to 4 times a week. In the first week take a fast walk for 20 mins expand this to 30 mins the second week, or if your up to it alternate running and walking e.g run for 2 mins then walk for 4. As you get more conditioned you can do less walking and more running. When you can run a full 30 mins, start tracking your progress by measuring distance, you can increase by 10% each week but only if you feel ready.
Running can put strain on the joints so if you run outdoor try running on grass and even surfaces. Many people say to run on your toes others say to run on your heels and some say flat footed. I say run how you feel comfortable, keep your back straight and do what feels right
Try mixing things up e.g 15 mins running then 15 mins rowing this is a good way to get 30 mins cardio in without getting bored.
